Biography

Kyla Joyce is a dancer and choreographer from Waterloo, Ontario. She began taking dance classes as one of the many activities she experienced growing up. As Kyla continued training in dance and exploring its possibilities, her love for it continue to grow. From an activity, it evolved into her passion and career path.

Kyla grew up dancing at local studios where she trained in Ballet, Contemporary, Modern, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, and Hip Hop. As part of her training she has completed examinations through the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Imperial Society  of Teachers Dancing (ISTD), earning Distinction on many of them. Kyla holds the post-nominal titles of ARAD and AISTD

In addition to her yearly training, she has also attended the esteemed summer intensives at Alonzo King Lines Ballet and Quinte Ballet School of Canada.

From local studios to professional training, Kyla is continuing to work towards her career in dance. She has moved to San Francisco to attend the Alonzo King Lines Ballet Training Program, under the direction of Karah Abiog, and is currently training under faculty including, but not limited to, Brett Conway, Maurya Kerr, Carmen Rozestraten, Sandra Chinn, Alice Svetic, and Victor Talledos. Kyla has also had the opportunity to work with guest artists such as Alonzo King, Christian Burns, Rena Butler, Darlyn Perez, Brodie Rachelle Masse, Sidra Bell, JaMoon Jones, Alaja Badalich, and Moscelyne ParkeHarrison, among others. Kyla is always excited to learn and knows that no matter what part of her career she is in, she will always be learning and growing.

Kyla has an extensive performance background. Partaking in her studios’ youth companies offered her a variety of opportunities including working with professional symphonies and an opera company. She has also performed works by Meredith Webster, Mike Tyus, Luca Renzi, Alejandro Perez, Gretchen Ackerman, Mateo Galindo Torres, Carmen Rozestraten, Dexandro Montalvo, and more. In addition to her extensive performance background, Kyla is also an emerging choreographer. Both her group and solo works have been recognized with awards at the Junior Choreographers Gala.

Kyla brings joy and positive energy to every space. She is eager to learn, share, and challenge her limits. She strives to bring positivity to the world through movement. Kyla is deeply passionate about this art form and is dedicated to sharing it with others.
